Google brings personal intelligence to Gemini users across the MENA region

Google has expanded its Personal Intelligence feature to users in the MENA region, enabling the Gemini app to draw on personal data from connected apps such as Gmail and Google Photos to deliver more tailored, context-aware responses.

The feature, which made its debut in the United States earlier this year, allows Gemini to reason across multiple sources and retrieve specific details — from an email thread or a photo — to answer questions in a way that feels genuinely personalised. Whether suggesting a book based on past reads or building a travel itinerary around previous trips, the capability is designed to make Gemini feel less like a search engine and more like a personal assistant that actually knows the user.

Privacy has been built into the feature from the ground up. Connected apps are switched off by default, giving users full control over what they share and when. Once enabled, Gemini accesses only what it needs to fulfil a specific request — and since the underlying data already resides securely within Google’s ecosystem, users are not required to share sensitive information with any third-party service. Gemini will also reference the sources it draws on, allowing users to verify where an answer has come from.

Personal Intelligence is currently available to subscribers on Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans across the MENA region, with availability for free users expected to follow in the coming weeks. To get started, users can open Gemini, navigate to Settings, tap Personal Intelligence, and select which apps to connect.
