Middle East Internet platform Careem has announced a new, senior leadership structure as the company implements its 2022 vision to become the region’s everyday ‘Super App’.
According to the firm, seasoned Managing Directors will lead expanded geographies and drive growth across new products and services in their respective markets. Careem’s Managing Director of developing markets (Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Turkey) Ibrahim Manna has expanded his role to lead Saudi Arabia. Wael Abou El Ella, Managing Director Egypt has taken on the responsibility to lead North Africa territories: Egypt and Morocco, with new market launches planned. Bassel Al Nahlaoui, Managing Director Gulf has expanded his role to lead Pakistan. And Co-Founder, Abdulla Elyas is now the Chairman of Saudi Arabia operations.
Mudassir Sheikha, CEO, and co-founder of Careem said in an email to all colleagues, “As we grow and do new things at Careem, it is important for us to keep evolving our leadership structures to best align with opportunities and realities. This evolution had to kick into high gear to realise our new Vision 2022 and the aspiration to become the region’s everyday Super App. Moreover, many of our markets and functions have expanded in scope and size since we last organised them, and it is only prudent that we do a strategic review to set them up for their next phase of crazy growth”.
In this period of fast-paced growth, Careem is doubling down on customer, captain and colleague experiences, product delivery and profitability. Over the next two quarters, the business will begin to provide a broader range of services to customers such as financial services and expanding the on-demand delivery use cases.
Careem’s new leadership structure is set up to drive this growth through better knowledge sharing, efficient collaboration, and faster decision making.
Operating across 14 countries in the greater Middle East, Careem offers ride-hailing, deliveries and payments to more than 33 million customers and has tech hubs in Berlin, Dubai and Pakistan.
