The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has officially launched the Space Accelerators Programme, a national initiative aimed at empowering Omani startups to develop innovative space-related solutions and services. The programme is designed to foster entrepreneurship, accelerate technological development, and strengthen the Sultanate’s position in the global space sector.
The one-year initiative forms a key part of Oman’s national space policy and executive programme, supporting broader goals around economic diversification and building national capabilities in advanced technologies. It seeks to localise and deliver space technologies and services through Omani institutions, while attracting investment and nurturing a competitive innovation ecosystem.
The programme will be delivered by Phoenix Space and Technology Company in partnership with Exotopic, a UK-based specialist in accelerator programmes. Together, they will support ten Omani startups, helping them bring commercially viable space technologies to market.
“This project represents a national programme dedicated to accelerating the growth of local startups in the space sector by enabling them to develop commercially viable space services and solutions,” said Dr Saud bin Humaid Al Shuailee, Director General of Policies and Governance and Head of the National Space Programme at MTCIT. “It offers a comprehensive ecosystem that includes technical mentorship, entrepreneurial training, and access to a wide network of partners and experts — all contributing to the establishment of a national business environment focused on high-value space industries and innovation.”
The programme will focus on several strategic areas within the space industry, including satellite communications, Earth observation and geospatial analytics, navigation technologies, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence, advanced computing, data storage, the Internet of Things (IoT), and spacecraft simulation.
To encourage excellence and sustainability, the top three performing startups will receive incentive awards aimed at supporting their long-term growth and alignment with the strategic direction of the space sector.
By equipping local entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to succeed, the Space Accelerators Programme represents a significant step in Oman’s journey to become a regional hub for space innovation and advanced technology.
