Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has qualified global safety science leader UL as a certified third-party body for the certification of products listed under Category 0901020, relating to electrical power distribution equipment.
Awarded a five-year qualification, UL has been added to ADWEA’s approved vendor list after successfully completing ADWEA’s stringent qualification process. This qualifies UL to certify switchgear and control gear equipment, transformers, cables and batteries for manufacturers selling products to end-users within the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) group of companies, which includes Abu Dhabi Distribution Co., Emirates Water and Electrical Co., Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (Transco) and Al Ain Distribution Company.
This qualification expands UL’s capabilities in the emirates. In 2020, UL’s Abu Dhabi laboratory was approved by Abu Dhabi Power Corporation to test low voltage switchgear and control gear equipment. Through its subsidiaries, TAQA provides transmission and distribution networks and grids that serve more than one million customers.
UL will certify equipment that supports existing critical infrastructure in the emirate and enables the increased integration of renewable energy. By helping manufacturers seeking to supply equipment capable of distributing renewable energy to existing power grids, UL will contribute to Abu Dhabi’s ambitious target of generating 50 percent of its power requirements from clean energy sources by 2030.
