Riyadh Municipality to deploy robots to monitor drainage network

The robots will utilise three-dimensional, 360-degree imaging to capture comprehensive views of the drainage networks in Riyadh.

Riyadh

The Riyadh Municipality has announced a significant upgrade to its infrastructure maintenance protocols by introducing specialised robots and advanced smart technologies into its routine operations for inspecting stormwater drainage networks.

The robots are designed to navigate through water and various surfaces, performing detailed measurements and analyses of the drainage systems, thus enabling more proactive and efficient maintenance, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Furthermore, the robots will utilise three-dimensional, 360-degree imaging to capture comprehensive views of the networks. The captured images are then processed and analysed using artificial intelligence (AI), which converts the visual data into actionable insights. This technological advancement is intended to expedite the municipality’s tasks, ensuring the readiness and reliability of the stormwater drainage systems and facilitating the development of proactive maintenance plans.

Riyadh Municipality will oversee the regular, preventive, and scheduled maintenance of all components of the stormwater drainage networks in the Kingdom’s capital. The goal is to guarantee the safety and operational readiness of the network components by promptly identifying and addressing any malfunctions or surrounding issues through the use of these modern technologies.

This initiative is part of the municipality’s broader commitment to providing high-quality services to residents and maintaining public safety. It aligns with their strategic objectives to advance digital transformation, enhance urban living, and support sustainable urban growth.
