The UAE has established the Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority, a new federal entity tasked with overseeing the country’s artificial intelligence, data and digital government agenda.
The authority was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and will operate under the leadership of Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications.
According to the announcement, the authority will be responsible for developing policies, strategies and legislation related to artificial intelligence, data and digital government. It will also oversee the governance and management of government data, support the integration of digital services across federal entities and contribute to efforts aimed at enhancing government efficiency and service delivery.
The move forms part of the UAE’s broader efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and expand the use of advanced technologies across government operations.
“The world is witnessing an unprecedented technological transformation driven by artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “The UAE seeks to lead this transformation globally through a unified national vision that combines artificial intelligence, data, and digital government under one integrated umbrella.”
He added: “The establishment of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority reflects our commitment to building a future-ready government capable of adapting to rapid technological changes and harnessing them to improve quality of life and strengthen the UAE’s global competitiveness.”
The authority will work alongside federal and local government entities to support the implementation of AI and digital government initiatives, while helping to ensure the effective use of data in policymaking and public services.
The announcement comes as the UAE continues to invest in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and data-driven government services as part of its long-term economic and development strategy.
