Barracuda is showcasing its email protection solutions -Barracuda Sentinals and Barracuda Essentials- at Gitex this year. At the event, the company has also announced the launch of Barracuda PhishLine, a simulation and training programme to fight against phishing attacks.

According to the company, email has become the biggest threat vector for ransomware, phishing, data theft, and other advanced threats. Statistics reveal that 74% of all attacks are through email, leading to business disruptions as well as loss of trust and reputation.

“In the Middle East region, we see very fast traction around email protection. Particularly, rapid adoption of Office 365 has created the need for a robust email protection solution, forcing companies to think about security as they move to a cloud-based solution. Barracuda Essentials is our core security solution that offers a layered approach to how organisations protect email,” explained Chris Ross, SVP Sales – International, Barracuda.

Apart from the basic email filtering solution for Office 365, the company also offers an advanced threat protection engine that handles zero-day attacks. Also highlighted at the event is Barracuda Sentinel that combines artificial intelligence, deep integration with Office 365, and brand protection into a comprehensive, cloud-based solution. “Spear-phishing is one of the new threat vectors, for which we have introduced Barracuda Sentinel. This solution guards against business email compromise, account takeover, spear phishing, impersonation, and other cyber fraud. Our AI engine helps understand email behaviour and is able to detect whether an email is a spear-phishing attack or not.”

A daunting challenge, according to Ross, is stopping users from clicking on a link. “To overcome this issue we have launched Barracuda PhishLine, which is a security awareness and training program. This ensures that employees are trained to understand the latest attack techniques, recognize subtle clues, and help stop email fraud, data loss, and brand damage.”

Going forward, the company will continue to focus on email protection and its security awareness training initiative to educate partners and customers.
